Walter Flemon Hodge Jr., 85, of Knoxville entered Heaven on Wednesday, March 26th. Walter was born in Rutledge, TN and was a lifelong resident of East Tennessee. He was a retired Gas Foreman and Supervisor from KUB with 35 years of service. After retirement, Walter and his loving wife, Virginia, were avid travelers and enjoyed vacationing in Florida during the winter months. Walter never met a stranger and always had a story knowing something about everything. Walter was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church for 54 years where he served as a deacon, greeter and bus driver. He loved telling others about Jesus. His steadfast faith has left a legacy of integrity, compassion and godly character.
Walter is preceded in death by his father, Walter Flemon Hodge Sr., his mother, Hallie Watson Hodge and great-grandchild Brianna Nicole Hodge. Walter is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia Mellon Hodge, two daughters, Cheryl Hodge; Ginger Wallace and husband Corey; two sons, Darrell Hodge and wife Kimberly; Rocky Hodge and wife Candy; one brother Jerry Hodge and wife Marilyn; one sister Mabel Jean Lynch and husband Glen; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with the Reverend Rocky Hodge, Reverend Darrell Hodge and Dr. Mike Boyd officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Highland West Cemetery – 9913 Sherrill Blvd. Knoxville, TN 37922. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon's International - 711 Hall of Fame Drive, Knoxville, TN 37917, Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee - 136 Harvest Lane, Maryville, TN 37801 or charity of your choice.
