Peterson, Melvin Verner, age 95, passed away on December 31, 2013. He recently moved to Knoxville and joined Church of the Ascension. Mel was born on February 15, 1918 in Denora, PA. Survivors include: Marjorie, his devoted wife of 68 years; son, Craig and wife, Carole; daughter, Lynn Charles and husband, Bruce; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; brother, Walter and wife, Doris. Mel served in WWII in the Army Air Corps and retired as Lt. Col. from the Air Force Reserves. He graduated from State Teachers College of California, PA and worked for Airborne Instruments Laboratory until retirement in 1978. He and Marjorie enjoyed retirement in Englewood, FL for 35 years. Mel was an active member at St. David's Episcopal Church where he served as usher and vestry member. He was an avid gardener and served as president of the Englewood Men's Garden Club. He tutored at Ainger, Jr. High School and was active in Kiwanis. The Memorial Services will be held at Church of the Ascension on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 6:30 PM. A later service will be held at St. David's in Englewood, FL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fish Ministry at Church of The Ascension, 800 S.
