Esther Angela Flanders, age 90, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, February 16th, 2012 at NHC-Farragut. Born in Portsmouth, NH, she was the eldest of four siblings. Esther had been a member of Concord United Methodist Church since 1959 and volunteered as the head of the landscape committee for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge, raising orchids, and was a member of many clubs. She is preceded in death by her husband; Irving C. Flanders, parents; Olaf A. and Lillian, and sister; Phyllis Hayford. She is survived by sons; Paul and wife Denise of Wartburg, Ralph and wife Karen of Knoxville, Jack and wife Connie of Harriman, and Richard and wife Maya of Clinton, grandchildren; Holly Bearden, Heather Miles, Hope Sawyer, Todd Flanders, Preston Flanders, Nicole Flanders, Kim McCuiston, Amy Flanders, and Faith Flanders, 5 great-grandchildren, and siblings; Col. John E. Peterson and Caroline Tomes. A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on Sunday, February 19th, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Concord United Methodist Church, 11020 Roane Drive, Knoxville, TN. A private interment will be held at a later date at Highland West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial be made to: KARMS, 733 N.
