Samuel David Sutton, Sr., age 68, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on the morning of February 5th, 2014. Sam was born in Maryville, TN on June 8th, 1945. He graduated from West End High in Birmingham, Alabama. Sam later married Mary Ellen on June 16th, 1979. Sam is preceded in death by parents; George Edward, Sr. and Annie Marie Sutton, siblings George Oscar Sutton, Nancy Ann Whited, Lucille Scogin, and Virginia Owen. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Mary Ellen, eight children; Samuel David Sutton, Jr., (Marcy), Daryl Sutton (Tammy), Jason Sutton (Pam), Jamie Roach (Jeff), Samantha Sutton, Pam Barrientos (Jaime), Douglas Cason, Evie Jo Cannon (Brett), 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Martha Ann Nichols (Sonny), Louise Dennis, brother George Edward Sutton, Jr. (Nancy), numerous nieces and nephews, and other family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

It saddens me deeply that we have lost such a great mentor. I valued Sam's knowledge, wisdom, humor and friendship. He will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with his family.
