Tribute & Message From The Family

Barbara Ann Trask Lide, age 85, passed away peacefully on January 13, with her daughter at her side. She was born in Revere, Massachusetts on April 9, 1927 to Henry Chester Trask and Martha Ann (Flanders) Trask. She grew up in the Boston area and graduated cum laude from Tufts University with a B.A. in Sociology. She received an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Michigan where she met Robert (Bob) W. Lide, who she married on January 29, 1955. They moved to Knoxville in 1957 where Bob began a long career as a Professor of Physics at the University of Tennessee. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who delighted in raising three children, and nurturing seven grandchildren, Robert, J.T., Daniel, Rachael, Catherine, Ben, and Morgan. She enjoyed playing an active role in her children's lives as a Sunday School Teacher, Girl Scout Leader and Den Mother, to name a few. She was an active member of the Church of the Savior, United Church of Christ and was involved in numerous charities including FISH, Mobile Meals, and refugee assistance. She taught Adult Education with the Knox County School System and was dedicated to helping people achieve their GED. Music was Barbara's passion. She was a talented pianist, published songwriter and, longtime member of the church choir and the O'Connor Singing Seniors. She also enjoyed hiking in the Smoky Mountains, bird watching, camping, and spending time at the beach. She loved to travel, and in their retirement, she and Bob made several cross-country trips to visit their widespread family and friends, usually camping along the way. Two highlights of her travels included a trip to France with her close friends Dorothy and Bill, and a cruise with sisters Susan and Martha. She is survived by her sister Susan Trask of Chatham, MA; daughter Rebecca Foust and husband John of Oak Ridge; sons Chester and wife Kristy of Sparks, NV and Charles and wife Lori of Marietta, GA. She is reunited with those who preceded her, husband Bob, sisters Martha Tillotson and Priscilla Agri, and granddaughter Morgan. Condolence & Memory Journal

My brothers Alex, Chip, and I grew up with the Lide family in our church and my father Bill and his wife Dorothy are the ones that went to France with Barbara years ago. I know they loved being with her and enjoyed her company tremendously. I had lunch with my Dad, Dorothy, and Barbara after church one day somewhere around the year 2002 and I enjoyed seeing her again. We are sorry for your loss of her, and wish you the best. The Lide family was always very kind and gracious to us.
